Father jailed for raping daughter
 |
| Rape victim Stephanie Webster waived her right to anonymity |
A FATHER has been given an eight-year jail sentence after being found guilty of raping his daughter.
Deryck Forrest, aged 44, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty during a trial in July.
Prosecutor Andrew Collings told the court Forrest, from Gillingham, had denied raping his daughter, Stephanie Webster, from Gravesend, when she was 16.
Sentencing him, Judge Philip Statman said: "You maintained right the way through your trial sexual intercourse never took place although there is DNA evidence to the contrary."
He added Forrest had breached the trust of his daughter.
Mr Statman said: "I appreciate the relationship with her had not been an easy one, but as your child she was entitled to look for you for protection and support and she was a vulnerable young woman.
"She has suffered a great emotional trauma from the actions committed by you."
Forrest was also banned from working with children and was ordered to be put on the Sex Offenders' Register.
Danny Moore, representing Forrest, said: "It will be difficult for him because this will be his first prison sentence."
Speaking outside court, Miss Webster, of Home Mead Close, who waived her right to anonymity, said: "I don't think the sentence is long enough but this is the start of the beginning of the rest of my life."
Miss Webster also said taking her father to court has made a big difference to her life and she wants to encourage anyone else who has been raped to do the same thing.
