Update: Fatal crash witness appeal
POLICE are appealing for information about a fatal crash in which a Woolwich man was killed.
Brian Bowers drove a the red Nissan 300 ZX coupe into a lampost in Artillery Place, Woolwich at around 8pm on September 4.
The 38-year-old father sustained head injuries during the collision and was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he died the next day.
Mr Bowers' partner Caroline Horton was in the car when the accident happened and had to be taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich to be treated for head injuries and a broken fingers.
The 26-year-old who lived with her partner in Nightingale Place, Woolwich said he was a keen mechanic who loved fixing cars and had a garage where he worked in Rectory Place - just around the corner from the scene of the crash.
She said: "He was just the sort of person who would put himself at the bottom to help anyone out - he was always there for everyone."
Ms Horton added that she and Mr Bowers - who was a diabetic - had been planning to move away together.
Flowers and cards have been left in Artillery Place and outside Mr Bower's garage.
One message from his 14-year-old son Jordan read: "I love you so much.
"You were more than just a dad you were my best friend.
"I will never ever forget you and I hope I am the man you were when I am older."
A post mortem examination was held at Greenwich Public Mortuary on September 10.
And the inquest opened and adjourned at Southwark Coroner's court on September 16.
