Town centre taped off after two assaults

A CORDONED area in Gravesend town centre is due to be lifted this afternoon say police.

The area around Darnley Road and New Road was cordoned off follwing reports of two separate assaults.

The first was a serious sexual attack on a teenage girl which was reported at around 9.30pm yesterday (May23).

Police have been conducting a house to house inquiry in the area this morning and the cordoned area in Darnley Road near A.B.C Self-Drive is due to be lifted this afternoon.

A second assault was reported early this morning after a fight near McDonald's in New Road.

A 28-year-old man was taken to Darent Valley Hospital with a head injury at 5am today.

On Saturday afternoon his condition was described as stable.

His injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

New Road has reopened to shoppers.

Abit off the subject of the article but maybe someone should be using spell checker! Cornered!! Slightly worrying really!

Not sure where the spelling error is. If you think the word 'cordoned' should be cornered then there is no spelling error.

chrisa totally agree ,
parents have some responsibility ...where is your under age daughter tonight ??

At no point in the article did it say that the girl was dressed as if she were "on the game." It's tragic that she got attacked and the only person to blame is the person who committed the attack.

Both the attackers need to be caught and dealt with harshly by the courts. If the attackers are also non british they should also be deported to serve their time in prisons in there own countries.

reading the comments in this article, it saddening to see that many blame the victim of this attack. whether or not she was scantily clothed, or under or over age, the fault lies with the attacker. there is no excuse for sexual assault. its disgusting that people would try to blame the victim, especially after reading an article such as this, that provides few details. i only hope that she recovers and is not permanently scarred from this.

Totally fed up with gravesend recently! Lived here all my life and just do not know who will be next. It's shocking and although I'm only 26 it certainly has changed a ot from when i was 16. Things need to change in Gravesend/Kent/Londo
n/UK and quickly!? I woulnt be willing to say wht i think the problem is openly on here, but suffice to say immigration needs to be looked at.

dont get me wrong the attacker is definatly to blame, have you seen what the girls wear at the weekends??? if you go out wearing next to nothing your bound to catch some unwanted attenion. just the same as men, you go out wearing a jewellery shop around your neck, wrist etc thats gonna attrack attention of muggers ( completly diff senario but you can see what i mean ), and as south east has mentioned about them not being british, unfortunalty we live in a multi-cultural society and this country does have alot of illegals that will do something like a sex attack for a roof over their heads!! send them back?? cant agree more!!! nothing would please me more then to have a decent justice system.... i.e. bring back national service for the youngsters who carry knives etc and decent deporting system for the illegals, and as for sex attackers..... snip snip
