Crystal Palace 1-0 Charlton
A 63RD minute winner from on-loan striker Craig Beattie earned Crystal Palace the derby bragging rights over bitter rivals Charlton at Selhurst Park.
Beattie's decisive header sent Alan Pardew to his first managerial defeat in this fixture and handed Neil Warnock a massive boost after a disappointing start to the campaign in SE25.
Crystal Palace started brightly and Paul Ifill powered in a shot from 20 yards on four minutes which took a crucial deflection off the head of Nicky Bailey before going behind for a corner.
Paddy McCarthy was fortunate not to pick up the first yellow card of the game in the 20th minute for a clumsy looking lunge on former Charlton team mate Darren Ambrose.
The two sides were cancelling each other out as the game descended into stalemate, but Victor Moses came close to livening things up with a 29th minute drive which just sailed inches wide of Nicky Weaver's post.
Danny Butterfield played in Ifill three minutes later and Weaver did well to push his low shot behind.
From the resulting Ben Watson corner, Beattie rose high and saw his header hit the crossbar and rebound back into the six-yard box but the danger was cleared.
Hameur Bouazza was the first Addicks player to test Julian Speroni on 37 minutes when the winger broke into the area and unleashed a shot which the Eagles keeper did well to palm away.
Kelly Youga tried his luck with a long range effort from 30 yards within the 60 seconds of the restart.
Almost immediately at the other end, Nick Carle shot's was saved by Weaver and Ifill blazed the rebound wide with the goal at his mercy.
Bouazza attempted an ambitious 50th minute volley from outside the area which failed to trouble Speroni.
Two minutes later, Ifill flicked the ball down and dragged a clever shot agonisingly wide as the Eagles continued to look the side most likely to break the deadlock.
The inevitable did happen on 63 minutes when Beattie met Watson's cross from the right and the on-loan striker headed across goal and beyond Weaver.
Matt Holland saw a tame header go straight into the palms of Speroni three minutes later as the visitors went in search of an equaliser.
Pardew introduced Zheng Zhi, Andy Gray and Svetoslav Todorov in a desperate bid to turn things around, dragging off Ambrose, Holand and the anonymous Lloyd Sam.
However, it was Palace who should have added a second when Jose Fonte headed against the bar on 72 minutes and Ifill blazed the rebound off target again for the second time.
Charlton never really looked like getting something from the game on a disappointing night for the Addicks and their large travelling contingent of fans.
Palace fans were only too happy to revel in the victory on the final whistle and any talk of an early season crisis in SE25 will be quickly forgotten after this result.
The best team definitely won on the night.

News Shopper verdict: Crystal Palace thoroughly deserved the three points on an abject night for the Addicks, who delivered their worst display since April's lame defeat at QPR.

What a rubbish game of football, I thought Hudson played well at the back,Paddy McCarthy done well but we knew he would as he was class for Charlton last season.
What is with the Pardew out cries??
You know what they say don't wish for something as it may come true... losing Pardew would be taking a HUGE step back.. he is doing well with little or no money to spend, 3 points and we would be 1 point outside the play-offs.
Okay I am gutted as a Charlton fan to lose tonight but lets give them there 5 mins of glory we have beaten them 7 of last 8 times, back at The Valley will be different.
On a good note I was not aware of any trouble around the ground, was a but silly of the Police before the game leaving so many Charlton fans outside of ground queuing down the street.

I was very upset by our performance last night. My nose went all red and the tears left makeup streaks down my face. And to top it all off some Palace ruffian stole the squirty flower from my lapel. By the time I got a crime reference number the last train had gone so I had to tramp all the way home in my size 24 shoes.

I travelled all the way from Gillingham in my camper van to see this game. I've had it with watching Charlton now, I'll go back to watching the mighty Gills next week from now on.

Not only did I miss the bus from Chatham, but my unicycle had a puncture on the way to and from the match.
I mean, I find it hard enough to peddle while wearing my favourite floppy shoes as it is, without all the extra hassle I had last night.
Fortunately I had the foresight to take a full thermos for the journey.
So it wasn't all bad.

Alan has VERY limited finances at the moment to work with, Charlton fans have to be realistic and keep expectations to a reasonable level.

After our humiliating I had trouble getting home. I went to get in my car after the game and as I closed the drivers door the passenger one flew open. I got out, went to the passenger side, shut the door and the drivers one flew open. This went on for about 25 minutes. Eventually both doors fell off. The nasty Palace fans were taking the mickey out of me at me, but I had the last laugh. I left my car doors in the Selhurst car park for them to clear up. Up the clowns.

What a terrible night.
The day started badly enough when Nancy, my pony/wife threw a shoe during her daily servicing. I was taken by surprise and me load shot all over the cart.
Then, on the way to the big city, we got flapped at by a seagull. It took lots of stroking and a special sausage to calm the old dear down.
The game was a washout (and Nancy wasn't allowed in - I had to leave her outside with those strapping big police horsies). We sang funny songs about Sha la la la and The Palace family. It was great to call someone else and inbred for a change. But they made horrible words up about Iain Dowie and stuff. I cried.
Then they scored a goal. I missed it because Ronald McDonald in front of me was lovin' it. Coco told him to shut up, then they had a fight. I got very upset seeing my hero's like that.
When we got out, I found that Nancy had been rogered senseless by a nasty policeman. She's run away so I had to push the caravan all the way home.
She still hasn't come back. If anyone spots a black and white pony with "property of McGurkin" tattooed on her bottom, please send her on home. But watch out for her tail. It's a bit sticky and matted.

We've lost, i cried myself to sleep i was that upset!
Now that Palace have beaten us, I can no longer see them as our 'rivals'. I think all us Charlton fans should start to hate Watford now.
