Mary Dullea was attacked outside her front door by two dogs GC12266
A MUM suffered horrific injuries when she was savaged by two dogs.
Professional pianist Mary Dullea was attacked outside her front door in Roydene Road, Plumstead Common, at just after 11pm.
Her 19-month-old son, Daithi, was with her at the time. He escaped injury when his pram toppled over in the opposite direction to the dogs.
However, 35-year-old Mrs Dullea was not so lucky.
Her husband, 34-year-old professional violinist Darragh Morgan, who was performing in Lisbon at the time, said: "She was on the floor immediately. The dogs just latched onto her arm and leg and mauled her for two minutes.
"The baby was the priority, motherly instinct just kicked in. While being mauled she never once let go of the pram. We're just thankful the baby was asleep and made no noise, otherwise who knows."

The attack only ended when the dogs' owner hit the dogs with a lead.
Described by neighbours as looking like Staffordshire bull terriers, the two dogs were off the lead and ran down the steps from
nearby Winn's Common before attacking Mrs Dullea.
Mr Morgan added: "Neighbours saw the man and dogs just walking away.
"Two attempted to chase after him, but the owner turned, saying Don't try and follow me', while his dogs snarled at them."
He says the man was last seen heading for the bus stop outside nearby Greenslade School, in Erindale.
Mr Morgan said: "I hope this guy is caught and the dogs are put down. Until then we won't feel safe. We don't want this to happen again."
Mrs Dullea suffered bite injuries to her right arm and leg in the attack on September 27.
She went to A&E at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, for treatment before being transferred to St Thomas' Hospital at Waterloo. She is still there and will undergo her fourth operation on Thursday.
Mr Morgan says his wife's injuries went "right to the bone" and she has had to have three operations, including a skin graft.
It is not yet clear how the injuries to Mrs Dullea's arm will affect her career as a pianist.
Mr Morgan added: "Her mobility is better but she's on morphine. It is too early to discuss whether she will make a full recovery."
Mrs Dullea was returning from a jazz concert at St Mark and St Margaret Church Hall, Old Mill Road, Plumstead, when she was attacked.
Since then several concerts she was to perform at have had to be cancelled and unless she makes a swift recovery more will follow.
Mr Morgan, who has worked with the Spice Girls, Paul McCartney and David Bowie, has also been forced to cancel a nine-day tour of his native Ireland to look after his wife and son.
Police have opened an investigation.
Superintendent for Safer Neighbourhoods and Partnership Brian Cherek said: "Officers are patrolling the area.
"We would urge the dog's owner to contact the police.
"He is described as in his twenties, 6ft tall, slim and light skinned with medium-length hair, possibly dreadlocks. He walked away
towards Erindale Terrace."

what a spinless piece of sewer filth this man is, might start walking my two Akita's round there, his pathetic mutts would cure their boredom for 30 seconds whilst showing this scum bag how a dog should behave on command. under the dangerous dogs act ALL DOGS MUST BE KEPT UNDER STRICT CONTROL his mutts obviously wasnt !

It's clear from the owners actions that these are no family pets, unfortunately for the animals they will need to be put to sleep.
If this guy ever gets caught what will happen to him, we know what will happen to the dogs but the real animal here is the guy who trained them to be this way?

This is disgracefull!
I had an arguement with a dog owner a few weeks ago, where I asked him to put his dog (also a staffodshire bull terrier) on a lead. The owner and I got into an arguement where both myself and my son were threaten with 'a kick in' and then he threatened to 'cut me up'.
It is the owners responsibility to ensure their dog is under control at all times.
I have a dog and I do not allow him off the lead - ever!
Any dog can turn.
Bring back dog licences and add Stafs to the dangerous dogs list!

I hope this lady recovers.
ClockWatcher great comments, I totally agree.
I go to woods near my home and some (not all) seem to have no regard for others, even though they may think their dog is "OK" each dog still has a bit of"wolf" in them and can turn at any moment.
I'm lucky as my wolf is tiny and if she causes trouble I can just scoop her up in my arms, but I would always put her on a lead if asked.

I echo your wishes Lizzie, and I also wish Mrs Dullea a speedy recovery.
I think a lot of these dog owners see their animal as an extension of themselves.
These arrogant thugs thinks it's great to have an agressive animal with them. They seem to think it makes them look tough/hard.

My mum has a staf. she is a lovely dog. I bet if these two dogs were stafs the ignorant pig taught them to be like that - he could be a drug dealer as they walk around with nasty dogs for protection - very brave. These so called men with these dogs are everywhere they are too scared to go out without them. I've got two rotties and they are never off the lead in a public place and their muzzled not that they are dangerous but any dog can turn for any reason so as a responsible owner you have to be careful.

As an owner of an American Bulldog, I am appalled at the behaviour of many of todays dog owners.
It seems that it is the people that breed the dogs who need to be regulated. It is all to easy for a 16 yr old boy to aqquire an animal that without training is potentially a lethal weapon.
I have serious reservations about breeding my own dog and if I was to do so then every potential owner would be vetted including housing and Police record check. I know it may seem ridiculous but all employers today require these checks and this along with the reintroduction of the dog license can only do good.
There are many careful and responsible dog owners out there it is a shame that many breeds of dogs are seen to be a fashion accessory or some sort of badge of honour for the spliff smoking, stella drinking 'yoof' that now plagues our streets.

Hi ClockWatcher and Anita,
Great comments. At the end of the day we all think our doggies are gorgeous and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but as we all know they are still a teeny percent wild animal and they can be set off at the slightest thing. Anita you are very sensible. (mine weighs under 5 kg but she thinks she is a big dog and has that temperament!)
The woods I take my dog to is always full of dog walkers but it is also full of children, and to a child any dog running up to them can be so frightening.
It is disgusting that people do have dogs and bring them up to be totally aggressive and then still expect them to be able to roam freely in public areas.
Dog licences, do you think they would make a difference??
I hope they find this dog owner and his dogs.

Not all Staffies are aggressive and I dont agree with putting them on the Dangerous Dogs Act. I have a rescue Staffie who is a pet and she has never even growled let alone showed her teeth to anyone. Blame the owners not the dogs my dad got attacked nad bitten by a sheep dog do you want to put themon the Act as well. Wise up Clockwatcher it isnt the dogs fault its the owners

Unfortunately the poor purebred staffs and their owners get all the flack when these things happen. The chances are these dogs were staffie 'types' and not even registered. Most likely from a backyard breeder and not cared for by the owner. He's probably readng these posts as well and revelling in the glory.

Definately agree on dog licencing laws coming back, the sooner the better! Too many idiots walk around with their stafs thinking they're the dog's bo11ocks (see what i did there?), and innocent people end up getting hurt becasue if it!!!

Hi Amanda,
I also agree that it is the owner and not the dog that is at fault.
I also know many lovely staffs that are great family dogs, but as I have said previously, any dog can turn.
Staffordshire bull terriers are naturally agressive as they were originally bred as a fighting dog.
Maybe the dangerous dogs list is a bit OTT.
My own dog was attacked when he was less than a year old by a staff, luckily he got away with just a few stitches, but to see him being shaken about by the dog was terrifying for him and me. The owner just strolled up and punched his dog on the head to get it to let go and then wandered off again. It was just a game to him!

we domesticate wild animals and expect them to know how they should behave, like they actually have some kinda code f conduct to follow... To be honest, if there are so many humans acting in a disgraceful way, commiting crimes etc. how can we ever be mad at dogs and other animals??? Passing the blame onto the dogs, hmm, talk about turning a blind eye!!!

I was out walking my dog the other day and he had one of those collers on and i come across a saff dog who got scared seeing my dog with the collar on and coward away from him at which point this dogs owner starting screaming at him and hitting him calling the dog a coward cause he was scared of the collar!! Some people want their dogs to be nasty!!
I always keep my dog on the lead at all time unless in a place seculuded from other dogs and people!! You never know how your dog is going to react to another dog or person!!

i have a staffie cross and had a pure pred staff before neither of them have ever bitten anyone. My old purebred staff was 13 yrs old when he died and was a good protector and would bark or prowl to protect me but never just for the sake of it and my current staffie cross is a softie he does not get on with some dogs so i always keep him on the lead i dont blame the dogs it is the owners. Yes Staffs can do damage to people and other dogs but its not their fault they have such powerful jaws its just how they are bred. I hope they find this man and put him in jail for GBH as its his fault not the poor dogs.

I have a rescued staff and when I take her out she is on her lead or on an extended lead in the park. I NEVER let her off it. She was set upon by two boxer pups and another dog,all OFF theirs leads and the owner also had a muzzled alsation. He had no consideration for others and moaned at me when I asked him to control his dogs. I have been bitten by a border collie,so has my son and he has also been attacked by a boxer. All dogs can turn no matter how we care for them. Bring back the dog license,I would pay for it so I could keep my dog.

REAL pits n staffs were bred to be inhernetly agreesive to other dogs, so that they woukld fight them (although as most are not fight-bred this has been lowered), but they were bred to be non- agressive with humans, has they needed to be handled safley in the pit, even while in battle, which is why they typicaly make poor guard dogs.

This is very bad and also very sad ! I have 2 dogs and they are both rescues, my gsd has been attacked by another dog and was abused by her old owners so causing her to go mental when she sees another dog ! Itlooks aggressive and nasty but she is scared stiff and would run the other way if off the lead ! which she never is ! I really feel for this lady as this would be my worst nightmare if they came at me and my dogs ! I had a staff which was abused and she was a great family dog and never went for anyone! I also have my best mates staff and he is only funny with other dogs now as he was attacked by a pitbull cross ! He did not have much of a chance and now has a big scar on the back of his head ! Yet again owner vanished ! I hope they find this scum bag and arrest him for gbh or a worse offence ! This poor lady ! I trust my dogs 95 per cent as there is always a 5% my or any dog can turn ! I dont think staff's should go on the dangerous dogs act as this is going to far ! Also if police cannot inforce driving the car whilst using a mobile phone how the hell are the going to inforce a dog license ! There should be some kind of law inforcing a age group and compulsory dog training ! if it was only that easy hey ! I agree this dogs should be put to sleep and it is sad that these dogs have been used in this way and have no future ! This owner well he is not a owner he is a scum as u cannot call him a owner as a owner takes good care of their dogs ! I hope they find him and that he gets his just desserts ! I wish this lady better and hope to god this man gets caught ! I cant take my dogs up the woods because of my gsd, as people let their dogs off the lead's and the dogs coming steaming over to her and they shout out my dog is ok just wants to say hello and i am left screaming well my dog is scared as hell ! it gets my back up so much that it then stresses my dog and that makes her worse and i want to go mad at this owners !!! IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS ! drives me mad !i hope these dogs go to rainbow bridge soon where they can have a new life ! Be free for that disgusting person !

Regardless of the actual breed, or whether pure bred or cross bred, all dogs should be kept on leads and muzzled (neither of which hurt the animal) when in public areas. Any owner not adhering to this should be fined. You all may love your dogs, but not everyone does -even if they are pussycats all dogs have it in them to turn. Thank god this pair didn't start on the baby.

I have a 5 year old staffie and as much I love her, as people have said, she is a dog and any dog can turn. I never let her off her lead, as not all people like dogs and it's not fair on them to have a strange dog running up to them. Also, just to correct a point made earlier, SBT's were originally bred to bring down Bulls (hence 'Bull Terrier', unfortunately some sicko decided they would be good to fight each other and make some money from them.
I agree that it should be the breeders that should be regulated and the homes vetted, so that we have less of these morons who decide they are a status symbol!! I have no objection to paying the license fee but I repeat that while all decent dog owners will pay, it's the wrong ones who let their dogs attack that won't.

After just reading the 1st couple of lines of the story i knew it would refer to staffs. I've got a staff and several people i know have them. I let him off the lead in the park all the time and the only thing anyone have got to be worried about is being licked and slobbered on. He's loves other people, especially children and other dogs People can easily point the finger to the breed but anyone who has one knows the truth. The owners are the ones to blame for bringing the dogs up to think that it's acceptable to behave like that
After just reading the 1st couple of lines of the story i knew it would refer to staffs. I've got a staff and several people i know have them. I let him off the lead in the park all the time and the only thing anyone have got to be worried about is being licked and slobbered on. I have always had staffies and I have to say they are ideal family pets as they are one of the most loyal dogs you will ever meet, most dogs that get bad press are some type of cross breed but are always labelled as staffies.
All dogs have the potential to lock their jaw and I know someone who was absolutely pulled to pieces by a jack russell but you never hear of that do you!!!! No because this would not make good press!!! This lady and her child were so unfotunate to come across this arrogant pig and his animals but lets be honest it could have been any breed of dog that done this, tey might have looked like staffies but I know quite a few people who own staffies crossed with Pit Bull or English Bull, now there is a cross breed of dog that is dangerous but because they are crossed no one does anything!!!!
I agree with dog license at least you would know that owners would have to take responsibility for their animals.
As for policing it I'm sure if tey can do this in huge countries like America then we can bloody well do the same here!!!

Any dog owner who allows their dog to run free in a public place is irresponcible and should be aware of the law. It clearly states a dog should be under control at all times. If a dog is off the lead its not under control. Yes yes i hear you when you say the only danger is it will lick someone to death, I have a german shepard thats the same. But if someone is scared of dogs, no matter how big or small it running up to them to say a friendly hello is absolutly terrifing. That in itself is enough for the police to impound your dog under the dangerous dogs act and it possibly put down. So owners I implore you, if you want to let your dog run free, do it in a less public place or at a time when there is very few people about. I walk my dog at 4.30 am and she is allowed to run free as the only thing about is the local foxs, when she is walked in the evening she must remain on the lead even though she is better behaved off it.

I live on Plumstead Common and was horrified to hear this story. I hope that Mary is on the mend very soon. I moved to Plumstead last year from N.London and have noticed that there is a prevalence of this type of pit bull / staffy / rotty breed in the area. I am a dog lover and until recently a dog owner ( we had a cocker spaniel). My sister used to have a rescue staffy and she actually had a better temperament than our pretty golden cocker. There is a general problem with irresponsible dog ownership in this country, in a similar vein to bad parenting, in that the outcome is highly anti-social. There should be tougher laws on breeding and owning dogs in this country. I pray that Mary will get well soon and that she isn't too psychologically scarred by what happened, which I am sure will be difficult. Hopefully more stringent measures will be put in place on ownership of dogs and the heartless owner of these will be caught and held accountable !!!
